Cunningham’s Beach, Bar Harbor, Maine, March 12, 2011 (Beachcombing series No.3)
Beachcombing in Maine in March is something of an endurance test, so 30ºF felt like a spring thaw. I headed straight for my favorite (most interestingly garbage-strewn) beach.
Pottery shards from the late 1800s to 1960s, sea glass, driftwood, coal, metal knob, Irish Moss seaweed (Chondrus crispus), Dog Whelk (Nucella lapillus), wallpaper, corncob, soda can pull-tab, bone, and plastic knob. The bottle necks are typical of early 20th-century soda bottles.
